Eco Retreats offer canvas holidays in a tipi (teepee) or yurt that are a relaxing way to escape the pressures of modern life.
We were among the forerunners of the "Glamping" genre that has recently become so popular. We have been established for 8 years and we are very proud of what we have achieved and the fact that our business has inspired so many other tipi and yurt sites.
We would like to reassure you that with us, we combine the luxury of a lovingly furnished space with the excitement of living deep in the natural world. Our site is really very spacious - you'll hardly know you have any neighbours!
At Eco Retreats you can reconnect with the rhythms of the environment, experience the benefits of holistic therapy and gain understanding of eco-related issues through learning from the systems we have in place.
What they say about an Eco Retreat:
"As a place to chill, you won't find many options more horizontal than this. The theme is peace and tranquillity..." Sunday Times - Britain's perfect pitches
"Does life get any greener than this?..." Guardian
In the heart of beautiful mountains, live for two or more nights in a traditional Tipi or Yurt, experiencing the tranquillity of the natural world while still being surrounded by all your necessary modern creature comforts. Each tipi or yurt is comfortably furnished with a chimnea log fire, sheep skin rugs, romantic fabrics and a double bed. You have your own private facilities. Forest and mountain walks, open fires, holistic therapy and magnificent views combine to give you an elemental experience.
The yurts are furnished in the same way as the tipis with a comfy double bed, organic bed linen, organic sheepskins and simple but beautiful furniture. Wherever possible our furnishings are from either local, recycled or fair trade sources.
The yurts feel a bit more spacious than the tipis so we often recommend this to families or larger groups, depending on availability.
Our 2012 season is from 30th March through to the end of October.
Our standard booking package is for two guests and prices quoted are for a minimum of two nights, you are very welcome to stay as long as you like! A lot of our guests feel that two nights just aren't enough! Also if you want to come in a larger group then get in touch with us and we'll see how best to accommodate you.
Weekend stays are usually from Friday to Sunday and mid-week stays are from Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday. We ask you to arrive between four and five and to leave by around eleven but we can usually be flexible with these times.
Please book early, especially if you have a special date in mind.
We offer stays either on our Basic package or with a Full Package which includes a healing session for two, twilight meditation and organic welcome hamper. The Eco Retreats site is in a remote and stunningly beautiful location on a 1,300 acre organic farm, about seven miles north-east of Machynlleth. You really can get away from it all and forget about the outside world. The site is 4 (and a bit) miles up a forest track which leads you through the landscape of the valley and the surrounding hills. Please be aware that as we are so remote, there is no electricity and limited infrastructure, all that we do in this place has a direct impact on the land and its eco system so we really try to keep it and its impact to a minimum. There are no inhabited houses for a 2 mile radius so this enables a great opportunity to stargaze with minimal light pollution which gives you a completely different perspective on a clear and starry night. (This also means that there is no "warden" or "housekeeper" living on the site either.)You'll be able to walk along streams, over hills, through ancient oak woods ... or just relax around your site. Each spot is set in a different field or area of the site, so you can fully enjoy an undisturbed time together. After arriving, most guests choose to spend their time around the site, but we're also close to other beautiful destinations - Cadair Idris, one of Wales' highest mountains, to the north and the fantastic beaches of Aberdyfi and Ynys Las to the west and south.
